With all those “green” terms out there, it’s sometimes hard for us to keep track. Here’s what they really mean.

Biodegradable products are composed primarily of naturally grown materials that can break down into simple, stable compounds and be absorbed back into the ecosystem. Many products that claim biodegradability actually require chemical agents to initiate the degrading process. We’re proud that all VerTerra products will completely naturally biodegrade in 2 months in water, land, and composting facilities without help from harmful chemical agents.

Compostable is a step above biodegradable. Compostable products break down aerobically into carbon dioxide, water, organic compounds and biomass. The resulting residue is non-toxic and makes a great natural fertilizer. All VerTerra products are 100% compostable and safe for use in your vegetable garden.

Sustainable production meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. VerTerra uses a completely sustainable production process because we do not deplete limited resources or raw materials.

Renewable means using natural resources and byproducts that do not interfere in the lifecycle of the material. VerTerra’s use of fallen leaves is a great example of using a resource that is naturally replenished.

We use no chemicals at any stage of our manufacturing process. Our products are made with only 2 ingredients, fallen leaves and water. They contain absolutely no chemicals, glues, lacquers, or bonding agents.
